 Rockhampton

Knee High Puppeteers offer workshops in all aspects of our craft including stilt walking, giant puppetry, electronics, puppet lighting, fire sculpture and lanterns. These are suitable for children or adults.

Why community workshops?

Workshops can be offered as part of a festival programme, and one possibility is to make puppets that can participate in your final parade, and that reflect the themes and concepts the carnival seeks to promote. This could be giant puppets as characters, sculptures and candle-lit paper lanterns that all reflect the images of your community.Fire sculptures can vary in size and intricacy. They can be made as fixed installations or to be carried in a procession and complement a gathering of paper lanterns (see below) very well.

PAPER LANTERNS

Lanterns consist of a frame covered in a layer of paper, with a light source (usually a candle) within the frame. Lanterns can be hand held or designed to be placed around a space to add atmosphere to night-time events.

 GIANT PUPPET CONSTRUCTION

We teach basic techniques for the creation of giant images. They can be used as an installation or in a parade style, or both. We can teach a broad cross section of these skills, including the use of backpacks, trolleys or hand held giant puppet construction. Foam techniques, grid construction (using wire, bamboo, cane, wicker or plastic) and basic electronics for the use of battery operated lights or LED's can also be incorporated.
